Murder on the Orient Express

I was expecting a lot from this film due to its all-star cast including Sir Kenneth Branagh who directs the film, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Agatha Christie.  I’d not read the book so I didn’t know the story or who the murderer was.

We watch as Hercule Poirot tries to solve the murder which happens shortly before the train is derailed by an avalanche.  This means they are stranded whilst the snow is being cleared, giving Poirot time to use his little grey cells to work out who the killer is.

Kenneth Branagh is brilliant as Poirot – his moustache is magnificent!  The rest of the cast including Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr. and Daisy Ridley are just as excellent.

The cinematography is stunning and at under two hours running time, it’s the perfect length for this updated murder-mystery.

Have you seen the film?  What did you think?
