REVIEW: Dunkirk

Dunkirk is a breathtaking film which has you completely drawn in from the beginning.

The story of Dunkirk is told from three different perspectives – land (covering one week), sea (covering one day) and air (which covers one hour) and follows different characters as they deal with the horror that is the Second World War.

There isn’t much dialogue in this film, but it doesn’t need it.  The performances of the actors say it all (even #spoiler Harry Styles – who was actually quite good!) – they manage to convey all the emotion of being involved in the war without saying much.

The scenes involving the fighter planes were frightening – the noise of the planes flying overhead really made me feel scared (which I suspect is the whole point) and I have new respect for anyone involved in any war.

The score by Hans Zimmer was exceptional, really adding to the atmosphere of the film.

Just a fantastic film which had me in tears by the end, which isn’t a spoiler really, it’s just sometimes the music makes me cry.

What are your thoughts on Dunkirk – let me know in the comments.
